Sympathetically engaging with the knowledge, ideas and experiences of the residents of townships
Stakeholder Engagement Event
Building on the range of findings from this research, the participants of all processes hosted a community stakeholder meeting in the Living Hope Hall in Vrygrond in April 2022. These meetings included not just the participants but also community leadership, municipal officials from relevant line departments from the City of Cape Town such as Emergency Services, Informal Settlements and Water and Sanitation, and elected representatives. The purpose of these meetings was for the research participants to have the opportunity to engage, share and reflect on water shortages and the development activities required to address it. The format of the event was a curated exhibition of this content alongside prepared presentations and discussions led by the research participants themselves. Importantly these events were held in venues in the townships themselves, allowing for immersion into the context for those otherwise not resident on site.
